Events, courses and cafes in the wilds

Why not start a community-focused venture during the Covid pandemic?

Well that’s just what we did…. Jane Crockett and I had a wonderful/exhilarating/hectic year hosting a huge variety of courses and events covering traditional construction skills, heritage crafts, art and drama, family and children’s activities and we even held ‘wild cafes’ through the Great British Summer (and all the rain showers that go with it!) It was a wonderful experience. We met so many fantastic ‘eco-minded’ and highly skilled people and laughed a lot!

Tea anyone?

Jane runs a tree nursery at Heydon Hill Wood, which has grown considerably with increasing recent demand, as you can imagine. She (and her husband Paul) also make their own charcoal and biochar (a gardener’s gold… you need to know about this stuff!) She’s hoping to run some courses and cafe’s next spring/summer, so keep your eye on her website https://heydonhillwood.wordpress.com/produce-from-our-wood/

I’m now focusing energy on increasing biodiversity in the forest garden, saving natural grassland areas and enhancing water meadows and pond areas. Once it’s more established, we hope to provide access for visits, groups and charities.

People and the planet: the two things I care most about. A career in Human Resource Management led me to Coaching, and as a qualified (ILM Level 7) coach I help people to develop and achieve personal or business goals. So why 'In the Wilds'? I've cared about the planet since childhood; hiking, rock climbing, Duke of Edinburgh... with the mantra of"take only photographs, leave only footprints". Now as a family we've ramped up our efforts to tackle climate change, including by starting a legacy forest garden project.
